Little Bois Brule at Ranger Road Culvert Replacement Project
Trout Unlimited will be overseeing a culvert replacement project this summer.
The road-stream crossing replacement project, on the Little Bois Brule River at Ranger Road, includes removal of an existing road-stream crossing (2 culverts), installation of the new road-stream crossing structure, and reconstruction and grading of the road over the structure. The work includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- River flow management, including temporary diversion and sequencing of work.
- Coordination with utilities and diggers hotline prior to construction
- Maintaining a functioning sanitary line that runs along Ranger Road through the project area during construction and ensuring the line is properly reinstalled.
- Traffic maintenance including detour signing in coordination with the Town of Brule.
- Removal and disposal of the existing road-stream crossing structure.
- Installing the new road-stream crossing structure and road reconstruction and grading.
- Installing streambed material in the new crossing structure.
- Erosion and pollution mitigation control measures.
Due to a planned bridge project on Highway 27, Ranger Road must be open to traffic no later than July 17th so that Ranger Road can be used as the detour road for the Highway 27 project starting on July 20th. This timing will also allow Highway 27 to be used as the detour route while Ranger Road is closed. Full project completion must be no later than July 31, 2026.
All in-stream work must be completed between June 15, 2026 and July 17, 2026 to accommodate Wisconsin DNR permit requirements and ensure that Ranger Road is open to traffic by July 17, 2026.
